Gunmen on motorcycles killed three people after attacking two churches and several villages in the Kajuru local government area of ​​Kaduna state on Sunday, the state government said.

The states Homeland Security and Home Affairs CommissionerSamuel Aruwan announced this in a statement to reporters.

“On a sad note, security agencies have informed the Kaduna State Government that bandits have targeted worshipers and locals in Ungwan Fada, Ungwan Turawa and Ungwan Makama in the general Rubu area of ​​the Kajuru Local Government Area.

“According to the report, the bandits raided the villages on motorcycles, starting from Ungwan Fada and moving towards Ungwan Turawa, before Ungwan Makama and then Rubu,” Aruwan said.

He said that in Rubu village, bandits attacked worshipers at the Maranatha Baptist Church and St. Moses Catholic Church.

“Three locals have been confirmed dead in the attacks. They are identified as follows: Peter Madaki, a ward chief of ‘Unguwan Fada’, Elisha Ezekiel, a resident of ‘Unguwan Fada’ itself, and Ali Zamani, a youth leader in the Rubu area,” the commissioner wrote in the statement.

Aruwan said two people were injured in the attacks and an unknown number of residents were kidnapped.

“The suspected bandits looted shops and took some valuables from the villages,” he added.

Aruwan said the state’s acting governor, Hadiza Balarabe, expressed sadness and condemned the attack in the strongest terms.

The governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, is currently believed to be out of Nigeria.

Ms. Balarabe also sympathized with the churches and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured victims.

“Security patrols are being conducted in the general area as investigations proceed. Citizens will be informed of emerging developments,” the commissioner said.

The latest attack came exactly two weeks after 40 worshipers were killed at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo state, in the southwestern part of the country.

Two weeks ago, gunmen on motorcycles also attacked a number of villages in Kajụrụ, Kaduna state. At least 32 people were killed in that attack.
